Student Leadership Development

Our vision statement at Hillview is:
“To grow young people who love God and impact others through service and leadership.”
We see service and leadership working hand in hand. Servant hearted leadership that was modelled by Jesus is what we teach and encourage among the students at Hillview Christian School.

There are many leadership opportunities for the students in Years 7 - 10 to participate in.

Below is a snapshot of these:

  • Our PrEP (Primary Enterprise Programme) provides leadership in different ways. For the Year 7, 8 and 10 students they can be business CEOs responsible for employing and leading their peers. In Year 9 the students can apply to be leaders of Government Agencies like the bank, services, marketing and real estate.
  • Hillview is blessed to have many sports teams and opportunities exist for our students to captain these. We also often have older students coaching younger ones. One of our option subjects at Year 9 and 10 is Sports Leadership. The students who take this option are regularly involved in coaching and refereeing younger students.
  • There are opportunities for Year 8 students to help lead our World Vision 40 hour challenge.
  • Three times a term we run a buddy programme where older classes meet with younger classes. In these sessions the older students are regularly leading the younger ones in a range of different activities.
  • Every two years we have a Year 7-10 Student leadership conference where keynote speakers share their experiences of leading and provide advice and knowledge for those participating.
Year 10 Leadership Programme

In addition to the above we have our Year 10 Leadership Programme. The students are given the option of participating in this programme. There are school leaders, junior school leaders, sports leaders, arts leaders and house leaders. Each group has leadership responsibilities (duties and activities to run) and leadership privileges (visiting other schools and events). All the Year 10 leaders meet at the start of the year to learn about key leadership principles and characteristics. They then meet regularly throughout the year with a senior leadership team member to further develop their leadership and plan for upcoming events.

“Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves, not looking to your own interests but each of you to the interests of the others.” Philippians 2: 3-4
