Attendance

Lateness

All students arriving late to school MUST REPORT TO THE OFFICE and sign in. Students will be given a late pass to give their classroom teacher. Please see the timetable tab if you are unsure of start times.

Absences

The school must be contacted by 8:45am on any morning that your child is absent from school, or late. You can notify the school (office & teacher) in the days prior if you know they will be away. Ways you can do this are:

  1. Helix Parent App - Absentee link
  2. Phone - Absentee line: Phone us on (03) 332 6923. Please dial 1 for the absentee line, leave your child's fill name, along with the reason for their absence.
  3. Email the office, office@hillview.school.nz. Please include your child's fill name along with the reason for their absence - e.g. cold symptoms, vomiting, fever, not just 'unwell'. You may also like to notify/cc your child's teacher.

Note: An unexplained absence charge of $2 will be added to your child's school account for failing to notify the school office. We understand that occasionally parents forget, but increasingly the office team spend up to an hour having to follow up on student absences.

Medical Certificate: If your child is medically unwell for more than 4 days a medical certificate may be required. This will state an expected return-to-school date. In the event of continued absences and/or continued lack of communication from parents regarding absences the child's classroom teacher may ask to meet with the parent, or be referred to the Deputy Principal. If necessary, Truancy Services may be contacted.

Holidays in term time

We strongly discourage families from planning holidays during term time. For time away from school of more than 2 days, notification must be made to the Principal in writing to office@hillview.school.nz.

Appointments

Procedures for students leaving to attend appointments:

  1. Please notify the school office and teacher prior to the beginning of the day if your child has an appointment to attend. If it is during the school
day, the teacher will arrange for the student to meet you at the school office to be collected.
  2. Parents - Visitors pass: Parents must first collect a visitor pass from the office before proceeding onto school ground to collect a child - if they
are not meeting you at the office for collection (for health & safety reasons).
  3. Students must sign out of school at the office before they leave, please notify the staff if they will not be returning to school.
  4. When returning from an appointment, students must sign in at the school office when they return and collect an appointment card, to be given
    to the classroom teacher.
